FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Local groups seek to reduce Oklahoma's rising cesarean section rate and associated rising costs

OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma (August 11, 2009) -The rising cesarean section rate is an alarming healthcare trend occurring in Oklahoma and across the country. This trend is a major contributor to the rising cost of healthcare. However this is a cost that can be easily contained by promoting Vaginal Birth After Cesarean (VBAC). Unfortunately, there is a prevailing myth in Oklahoma that these services do not exist, or worse, are illegal.

The Oklahoma Birth Network and the Central Oklahoma Chapter of the International Cesarean Awareness Network (ICAN) are working to change this perception. The Oklahoma Birth Network and ICAN of Central Oklahoma will hold an event promoting VBAC in Oklahoma. The event, "VBAC in Oklahoma: Get the Myths and Facts", is scheduled for Saturday, September 12, 5 PM, at Java Dave's (10th and Walker). This event will feature a panel of moms discussing their experiences with VBAC. Their stories will inform, inspire and encourage all moms and moms-to-be. Please come to hear their stories and learn about birthing options in Oklahoma. All are welcome!

The Oklahoma Birth Network is a non-profit local chapter of the National Birth Network. The Oklahoma Chapter of BirthNetwork National is dedicated to "Empowering Oklahoma families and providers to work together to make informed decisions during the childbearing year."
